January: Kyoto, Japan

In January, Kyoto offers a wintry feel, often with snow-covered temples and traditional ceremonies. The New Year is celebrated with special events such as festivals in the ancient capital. Discover Hatsumōde, a Japanese tradition where people seek blessings at temples for success in life.
Make the most of the winter setting and stroll through the gardens of temple complexes such as Kinkaku-ji and Gion. While doing so, you can take a moment to enjoy seasonal delicacies such as oden (a traditional stew) and zōni (a soup with mochi), which are specially prepared during the winter months.
Explore other winter festivals and events taking place in January, such as the Kyoto Hatsu Ichi Matsuri, a traditional market where you can buy handcrafted products and souvenirs. Escape the cold in between events and enjoy some hot green tea at one of the traditional tea houses.

Packing Tips

  1. Comfortable hiking shoes: Kyoto is known for its temples and shrines on hilly terrain. Hence, comfortable walking shoes are essential!

  2. Covering clothing: Make sure to cover your shoulders and knees when visiting temples, as a sign of respect for the local culture.

  3. Universal power adapter: In order to charge your phone, it's important to bring a universal converter and adapter.

  4. Important documents: Keep all your important documents such as your passport, visas, and travel documents together! Our Biking Red passport cover offers an ideal solution.

  5. Practical backpack: During your visit to all the beautiful temples, a sturdy backpack cannot be missing. Pair it with your passport cover by opt for our Biking Red Classic backpack.

February: Patagonia, Argentina/Chile

While it is still warm and the tourist crowds start to decrease, February is the ideal time for Patagonia. You can enjoy beautiful hikes and explore nature, including glaciers and mountains.
A recommended destination is Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, where you can enjoy popular treks. The W-trek, usually lasting 4 to 6 days, offers expansive views of Torres del Paine and the surrounding nature. For a more extensive journey, there is the O-trek, which takes about 7 to 9 days and circles the park entirely.
In mid-February, the local population of Patagonia celebrates Festival Costumbrista Chilote on Chiloé Island, north of Patagonia, Chile. On this occasion, the environment is transformed into a colourful and festive atmosphere. This local event includes many special festivities, such as local music performances and enjoying delicious food and drinks.

Stroll through the narrow streets of villages like Oia and Fira and admire the whitewashed buildings with blue domes. March offers the advantage of fewer tourists, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of the architecture.
